Dear Supporters of Secondary Education:
We have
entered a new calendar year. Heritage students have had their holiday
break and have now completed the first semester exams. They now
are looking forward to the second semester and the completion of
another school year. We pray that God will continue to bless Heritage
in the remainder of this school year.
This
year the board has decided to sponsor student participation in the
American Mathematics Competition and is paying half of the entrance
fee. This program is voluntary for our students, allows them to
be tested on their mathematics skill, and ranks them according to
the national average. This program is very similar to the one that
Heritage has participated in for Latin studies. Our students have
participated in the National Latin Exams for the last two years.
As a board, we plan to continue encouraging participation in these
types of programs in the future.
The Education
Committee is continuing in its search to find another teacher to
help fill out our teaching staff for next year. We continue to run
our ad in the Standard Bearer, and have interviewed several prospects.
The Board
and Education Committee are investigating options concerning the
most beneficial school day start and finish times for future school
years. The board will keep you informed of any future decisions
on this issue.
Our Web
Committee has been hard at work keeping the Heritage website up
to date and full of useful information. The Web committee is busy
in the work of converting the format of our web site. Although you
will not see this improvement when you go to the site, this back-up
format will make it much easier to update the site with current
information. If you have a chance to visit our web site please do
so at: www.heritagechs.org
The
Building and Grounds Committee has been busy over our holiday break.
New lockers were purchased and assembled. The students existing
lockers were moved from their present location near the Calvary
Church office, to the basement lunchroom area. The committee has
also been working with our Protestant Reformed Grade School on seeking
out future land prospects for a combined location. The need to have
our own building cannot be delayed much longer.
The Technology
Committee has been working with the building committee, in planning
for next year’s computer courses. The increase in the number of
students may make it necessary to relocate our computer lab to another
room. Options are being discussed and looked at.
The Finance
Committee reports that our building fund stands at $566,547.00.
We prayerfully ask for your continued support.

Some
upcoming events we have planned are a Junior/Senior banquet (a time
in which our junior class bids farewell to the seniors) and a class
trip for the seniors, the details of which are still being worked
out.

Heritage
basketball teams are just wrapping up the season. For the first
time, we have been able to put together a boy’s team consisting
of 10 players. Our coaches for the boys are Dan Zandstra & Jeff
Zylstra and for the girls’ team Kate Van Uffelen & Sandra Dykstra.
Both teams have worked very hard this year. As a board, we would
like to thank the coaches for taking time out of their busy schedules
to help in developing our young peoples’ athletic skills and sportsmanship.
After
23 years as an Association for Protestant Reformed Secondary Education,
we have reached the point of our first graduation ceremony, which
will take place on Saturday, May 29. DV
We ask
that you keep Heritage in your prayers. God has blessed us with
a staff that is dedicated and committed to teaching from a sound
Reformed base.
“Now therefore hearken unto me, O ye children: for blessed are
they that keep my way. Hear instruction, and be wise, and refuse
it not.” Proverbs 8: 32 & 33
In His
Service,
The Board
