| Welcome,
Miss Huizenga!
By: Bonnie Boer
As the
2003/2004 school year works on through the first month, there are
many new things to get used to. Whether it is the fact that student
population has almost doubled, or the new school layout, we’re all
getting accustomed to the changes in our high school environment.
Possibly the easiest change to accept is the friendly face of Miss
Carrie Huizenga. Born and raised in Randolph, Wisconsin, and later
a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grade teacher in our Redlands, California school,
she brings a very likeable and upbeat teaching attitude to Heritage.
Leading Spanish, general science, and human anatomy and physiology
classes, she strives to use her God–given ability to the fullest.
When asked about her experiences with an older and more mature high
school audience, her sense of humor shines through: “I think the
students are just rotten…nah, I’m just joking. I’m really enjoying
myself so far…”.
A warm welcome to you, Miss Huizenga, from all the students at Heritage.
We hope you enjoy your teaching position here at HCHS!
Journalism
Club
By: Alyssa Zandstra
Have
you ever wondered who plays a role in the making of The Headliner?
This year, the seniors and juniors have the privilege to sign up
for Journalism Club. Two seniors and four juniors (Melissa De Jong,
Katie Van Baren, Bonnie Boer, Grace De Jong, Gina Verburg, and Alyssa
Zandstra) have signed up for Journalism Club. Our editor-in-chief
is Mr. Van Uffelen, who oversees the working of The Headliner.
Club members are required to write their own articles every two
weeks and proofread the articles of two other club members before
their articles are published. On top of writing a bi-weekly article,
there is an assortment of jobs which each club member must attend
to.
The club members will be kept rather busy with various tasks from
announcement manager to circulation manager, and reporters to layout
committee.
Throughout the two semester course of journalism, the Journalism
Club hopes to progress in writing skill and use the talents that
God has given them to the best of their ability.
