Top
of the Line Computers
By
Josh Poortinga
The high quality Dell computers we have
here at Heritage High are outstanding.
These computers are well-chosen and perfectly capable of
keeping up with the advancements in our generation.
We have instant Internet access, which works out great
in Mr. Van Uffelen’s geography class as we study for our
map quizzes on a map tutorial web site. I imagine that we will also be using the Internet
quite a bit in computer applications, which we will be
starting next semester.
Another thing that I really think is great
is that the whole system is networked together so that the whole
class can print off their papers on one printer.
The network extends into all the classrooms so that the
teachers can roll one of the computers out of the faculty room
and plug it into the network in their rooms.
They can go online, print off papers, or watch projections.
If you want to see something really incredible, check out
the projector Mr. Medema has for us.
The projector is great!
We can now watch the A.D.A.M. program in biology by
projecting it onto the marker board. I don’t know how many parents have seen the
high-quality computers here at Heritage High. If you haven’t,
I’ll give the tour!
Getting
a Driver’s License
By Josh Dotson
Getting
your driver’s license is not very easy; you have to do a lot of
things to be able to get a license. The first thing you have to do is go to driver’s
education. In driver’s
education you learn all the basics about driving. There are a few tests you have to pass to pass the driver’s education
course.
While you’re in driver’s education you are
able to get your permit if you pass the tests. When you obtain the permit you can drive with an adult. You must drive twenty-five hours with this
permit. Once you have
passed the driver’s education course, driven a minimum of twenty-five
hours with a permit, are sixteen years old, and have passed the
driving test, you are able to at last obtain your driver’s license!
Vacation
By Emily De Jong
We had a very nice Thanksgiving
vacation this past week. I
interviewed a few people about their opinions concerning vacations
in general.
The words of Katie Van
Baren were: “There should be more vacations because we are very
diligent and hard working! We should not be given so much homework
because we need time to relax.”
Meghan Looyenga said,
“Vacation is a pleasant break from our tough schoolwork.” Joshua Dotson’s opinion was, “Vacation is a
time to have fun with your friends away from school and not go
to any other school!” He was referring to those who visited other
schools on their vacations.
It is very nice to get
a break from school every once in a while.
I believe that vacations should happen more often!
First Quarter as a Sophomore
By Katie
Van Baren
The first quarter as a sophomore went well,
and I think I can say most pleasantly for myself. I had some doubts at the beginning of the year,
but now that the year is started, I can see that I am getting
all I need out of this high school, not to mention the top-notch
hot lunches that the wonderful mothers give us each week.
The classes are filled with stimulating topics that grab
the attention of the students.
The students in my sophomore class are overall
very pleased with the school, as you can see from the following
quotes from the students. This
is the question that I asked them:
“What do you think of the first quarter in the school year,
and what do you think should be changed?”
Emily De Jong stated, “Good, except for
too much homework, especially on vacations.”
Melissa said, “Good!” with great enthusiasm. Meghan Looyenga said, “It is a lot different than I thought, but
I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else now.”
Josh Poortinga remarked, “It’s awesome, but lockers are
too hard to get to.” Josh
Dotson joked, “Fun, except parking is too hard to come by.”
I really think that the sophomores are pleased with the
school.
The teachers, I think, are pleased with
the great attitudes of the sophomores.
I asked all of the teachers this question: “What do you
think of the sophomore class this year?”
Mr. Medema: “I am pleasantly surprised by the upbeat attitude
of the sophomores.” Mrs. Looyenga: “I’m happy to see the unity
of the sophomores.” Mr.
Van Uffelen: “They are quite mature and fun-loving. They know
how to have fun without having it become a distraction.”
