“We do NOT want to trade with you!” Bonnie
shouted.
“Well, then you will not receive the profits
from us,” I calmly replied.
“We gave you that land and you abused it!”
Alyssa proclaimed.
“That was not us! You’re talking about
the Europeans before us!” Gina yelled back.
We are debating about whether or not we,
the Asians, should allow the Europeans to trade with us. Our heated debate has taken up the entire class!
Our arguments are organized. Half of the
class is fighting for the European right to trade. The other half
of the class is fighting so that the Europeans do not have the right
to trade. Those who do not want to trade must write an argument
up on the board and read a little speech. The other side must write
and read something in their defense, to make trade with the Europeans
possible.
The Asians realized that the Europeans had
better medical skills. They wanted to trade for these benefits,
but they did not want the Europeans to swarm into their lands for
two main reasons. First of all, the Asians had a population boom
without the help of the Europeans.
Secondly, the Asians believed firmly in Buddhism. They wanted
nothing to do with the Christianity of the Europeans.
These were the main arguments of our intense world history debate.
Although there were no victors, we sure had fun!

The
Library
By Rachel Warner
At Heritage
Christian High School, we have a library. I was up there in the heat this summer, helping to clean it out.
It was extremely dusty and needed a good, thorough cleaning!
Needless to say, it looks a whole lot better now.
There are
a lot of books up there! I don’t know how I’ll ever decide which
book to check out! There are history books, literature books, biographies,
fiction, non-fiction, and more…almost any type of book you can imagine. It’s a good thing our library is arranged by
the Dewey Decimal System. There’s a Dewey Decimal system poster
hanging on the wall to help us if we’re not sure where to find our
books.
Our school
library is not located in the main part of the school. It’s actually located on a different wing of
the building, not far from the classrooms if we walk outside to
a different door.
A library
is a very important thing for a school to have, especially a high
school. It provides us with information if we have to write a report. It also gives us a chance to find books to
read for our interest. We could not have a library if it were not
for the ladies who volunteered to help set the library up. I would
like to thank the volunteers for their time. It’s worth it.

HCHS By Jennifer Kooy
When I first found out that my parents
were going to send me to Heritage Christian High School, I was kind
of sad.
I wanted to go to Illiana Christian High
School with my sister. I was worried that I wouldn’t have a social
life. But as time went on, my thinking changed.
Now I’m proud to be a student at Heritage
Christian High. I’m glad that I’m a student here. I go to classes
with people that I know quite well, and all of my friends are here!
At Heritage Christian High School, I can
have a true Christian education. I can see the glory of God through
all of the subjects taught here. I have a great time with fellow
Christians, reading and learning about God’s world and singing His
praises.

So
far at school we’ve been having a lot of fun! I was not expecting
school to be so wonderful!
School starts at 7:45 in the morning – a big change from what
we were used to…I mean, I have to be at my “car pool stop” by 7:20!
That’s when I used to wake up last year for school!!
Anyway,
besides the drastic change of schedule, I’ve been having loads of
fun with both the students and teachers! We’re learning a lot!
Hope you
enjoy The Headliner!
Have fun
reading!

Girl’s
Volleyball By Gina Verburg
We all learned exactly how to play volleyball
around grade 6, when we started the actual P.E. class with Mrs.
Bruinsma. In 7th grade, we freshmen proved that we had
indeed learned how to play when we brought home the gold medal from
the tournaments. Now, as freshmen and sophomores in high school,
we still get to play volleyball.
On Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays, we
have volleyball practice from around 2:30 to 4:15. By the time we
actually get to volleyball on those days, however, we are all very
tired. Why? Well, it’s because we also have P.E. on those days,
and it definitely tires us out. But we still manage to do our best
in practice!
There are games that we play in practice.
There’s one game (my personal favorite) called “Dead Fish.” There
are two teams, and
we take turns serving the ball over the net. The only catch is that
we have to make our serves over the net. If we don’t, we’ll have
to go lie on the other team’s side and wait for our teammate to
serve a ball over the net and hit us. Sure, it hurts when a serve
comes flying over and smacks us in the face…but it’s how we play
the game.
We also practice serving, bumping, setting,
and spiking. Of course, we do drills to warm up and practice our
skills. So I think that our team will be just as good, if not better,
than it was in 7th grade when we got the gold. GO HERITAGE!!!
